Who we are
The Independent Pharmacists of Ontario (IPO) is a not-for-profit organization that advocates on behalf of independent pharmacists across Ontario. We have over 1,000 members and membership is growing steadily.
Independent pharmacists are the health care professionals that Ontarians turn to first, providing many vital health care services to our patients free of charge.
|
What we stand for
We care about the health and wellbeing of our patients and the communities that we live and work in.
In addition to medication management and dispensing, independent pharmacists provide their customers with vital health care services such as:
- Medication interaction reviews for
all patients
- Providing pill-packs for seniors and other vulnerable patients
- Offering home deliveries for those confined to their homes
- Chronic disease management programs
- Assistance with smoking cessation and weight management

Independent pharmacy
is in jeopardy
Recent cost-cutting measures by the Ontario government are making it hard for us to stay afloat
- New government deals with drug makers will take away one of our main revenue sources
- We are no longer reimbursed for providing weekly pill packs to seniors and others who rely on this independent living aid
- We have seen a major increase in bureaucratic paper-work, and that takes away from our time with patients
- Plus, the cost of providing professional services has increased less than 1% each year for the past 15 years while the cost of doing business keeps going up.
Result - pharmacies actually lose money on every Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) prescription they fill. This unfair attack on independent pharmacy has to stop.
If you value the services your pharmacist provides,
We need your support. |
